Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest - 1999


The Swedish Final was held on February 27th in Stockholm, hosted by Anders Lundin and Vendela Thommessen. The voting was 50% regional juries and 50% televoting.

The winner was Charlotte Nilsson with the song Tusen och en natt, written by Gert Lengstrand and Lars Diedricsson. It got the highest number of points from both the 11 juries and the televoters.

10. Välkommen hem - Christer Björkman, 6 points

The song was performed in English at the Eurovision as Take me to your heaven, taking advantage of new rules removing the requirement to perform in a national language, and it won the contest with 163 points.  At the Eurovision, one of Charlotte's backing singers was Gabriel Forss, who was a member of Blond that represented Sweden in 1997.

Charlotte Nilsson (born Anna Jenny Charlotte Nilsson on October 7 1974, in Hovmantorp, Kronobergs län, Sweden) is a Swedish singer and occasional television host, perhaps most famous for winning the 1999 Melodifestivalen and subsequently that year's Eurovision Song Contest with the song Take Me to Your Heaven.

Since then she has released seven albums and multiple singles. Charlotte once again won Melodifestivalen 2008 and represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with her song Hero, this time she placed 18.

She is one of Sweden's most popular female singers, often performing at Sweden's top shows. Throughout her career, she has worked with different types of music, ranging from dansband and schlager, via modern pop, to soulful ballads and jazz melodies.
